Save gas with an upscale economy car

General Motors, Nissan, Toyota and Honda are all planning on launching new sub-compacts next year. These new sub-compacts are not the stripped down cars of the past. The cars have options that are upscale for sub-compact cars and previously only available on higher end cars. Considering that these cars start at around $10,000 to $12,000, having the option for a six disc CD changer, power sunroofs, steering wheel mounted audio control and so on is pretty amazing. High gas prices have pushed car sales into the lead past trucks and SUVs, for the first time since 1981.

GM will be launching the new Chevrolet Aveo LT next year. This is a quick update since the vehicle was only launched 2.5 year ago. The new Aveo equiped with a manual trans gets 27 miles per gallon city and up to 35 on the highway.

Honda will be introducing the new Fit car since the Civic has grown show much that it can no longer really be considered a compact. Nissan will introduce the Versa in June and Toyota will introduce the Yaris next year.
